Q1 2026 has been a defining quarter for TIP. Two new Project Groups launched to tackle AI-driven networks and video performance at scale. Edgecore Networks and Pegatron earned TIP Bronze Badges. The ARIANE II consortium completed its UK DSIT-funded R&D project. And the OOPT community shipped GNPy 2.14.

TIP had a strong presence at Mobile World Congress 2026, convening industry leaders to advance open, disaggregated, and AI-ready networks. From the launch of the Data & AI Foundations Project Group to momentum around Open RAN, AI infrastructure, and Video QoE collaboration, the week highlighted growing industry engagement across the TIP ecosystem—setting the stage for continued progress leading into FYUZ 2026 in Seattle.

The latest GNPy 2.14 release introduces major improvements for optical network planning, including enhanced physical modeling accuracy, richer diagnostic metrics, improved multi-vendor equipment library management, and new YANG model support for easier integration with SDN and automation workflows. These updates strengthen GNPy’s role as a key open-source tool for planning, simulating, and optimizing modern DWDM networks.

ENAI targets to define open, interoperable architectures for AI infrastructure, including Ethernet‑based scale‑up and scale‑out within servers and AI clusters, and open IP‑based transport for scale‑across connectivity across distributed data centers.

As we move into 2026, the Telecom Infra Project is executing against its strategic priorities for the year ahead. The global industry calendar is already underway, including Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and TIP is entering the year with strong momentum and clear direction.
